Yoga in the park offers the best of yoga! This 60 minute class does it all, targeting every muscle and joint in your body. The first 40 minutes are devoted to a yang series of poses from which you will become stronger and more flexible than you ever thought possible. The second portion is devoted to yin(cool) yoga, which targets our connective tissues allowing the body to rebuild the spine and hips. You will sweat, work hard and succeed. This class is yoga at its best, combining muscular effort with developing joint flexibility- it does not get any healthier than this. As long as you have the determination, you can do this class, all poses can be modified to suit your body at any stage of development. As we say in yoga, come as you are; leave as you want to be. Yoga in the Park is geared towards beginners as well as intermediate students and takes place indoors in Cantigny Park's Education Center. This class is taught by Maureen Fogerty, certified and Yoga Alliance trained instructor.

About the instructor:
With a type A personality and a job as a bank vice president, Maureen Fogerty was drawn to high-impact, fast and furious workouts. But when her scoliosis started limiting her range of motion, she started doing research on alternatives and yoga was the obvious choice. "The practice makes total sense from an intellectual perspective, and physically the results were almost immediate. Yoga, especially Yin, is a very important part of my life. That path also led to becoming a vegan and rescuing dogs." Maureen has just returned from additional teacher certification in Yin Yoga with Paul and Suzee Grilley. "As we age, yin yoga becomes so essential in maintaining or (if we lost it) redeveloping our joints' flexibility. This practice has literally saved my spine; it's the perfect complement to a vigorous hatha routine". Maureen has a private practice in Oak Brook teaching business executives how to use yoga to reduce stress and maintain their competitive edge.
